This fall, we’re inviting you to join us at Theaterlab for FREE.
Draped in participatory conversations, each month Theaterlab opens its doors to unforgettable moments of community
Tied together with a common thread of impeccable artistry in the making, EVERY BODY IN THE HOUSE casts doubt on loneliness and invites us all to mend our wounds.
On select Saturdays, you’ll have the opportunity to move throughout our spaces and discover something new.
From performance explorations, intimate moments of story sharing, visual art installations, works-in-progress, and more – these moments will begin to weave a new narrative of how we all exist together.
Although the artists working in the space will change each month, you’ll be able to count on some things persisting; giving us a chance to build upon our story together, month after month. So, in addition to experiencing the art, you’re welcome, and encouraged, to join in both the community conversation and mending sessions every time you stop by.
OPEN STUDIOS – Start at noon. Drop by any time. Explore what’s happening in the Gallery, Atelier, and Theater.
MENDING SESSIONS – We’ll provide the supplies, instruction, and help along the way – you bring your item(s) that needs care and love.
COMMUNITY CONVERSATION – Each month will conclude with a community conversation with the artists. We’ll start around 4pm.

You do not need a ticket, and you are welcome to drop in on the day without an RSVP, but we’d love to know in advance so we can anticipate how much food & drink to prep.

GALLERY | FREDDIE CROSSLEY | HELP YOURSELVES | 3rd floor
We put out the plates and we eat. With recipes as scores, alone or together we dance between hob, oven, fridge, table, sink. We chop, heat, taste, improvise; gracefully, clumsily, quickly, heavily, we set the table, cook, break things, clean up, cry, swear, laugh and eat.
In his durational performance piece, Help Yourselves, UK-based artist Freddie Crossley cooks soup to fill a pot in the centre of a gallery. It is warm and it is for you to eat, alone or together. Crossley’s work is both a gift of welcome and a stark reminder of who our cultural spaces are for. If we want to eat, we must share and in that act, in connection, kindness and care, against all odds, Help Yourselves is a glimmer of hope.
ABOUT FREDDIE CROSSLEY
Freddie Crossley is a British artist, potter, writer and cook (though he’s always wanted to be a dancer). In food, performance and clay, his work bridges the permanent and ephemeral, the things we live with and the things we will never see again. Crossley is a graduate of The Royal College of Art, London where he was awarded the prestigious Märit Rausing Scholarship in Ceramics and Glass between 2024 and 2025. Here he developed a choreographic practice through clay and food. Crossley won the Duncan Robinson Prize for visual art in 2012 and 2014 whilst studying literature at the University of Cambridge. He went on to train as a puppeteer, worked in Michelin starred restaurants and took on directorial residencies at large-scale UK theatres where he made and toured live performance events. Crossley has toured a wide landscape of work in the UK, Europe and US with exhibition in major UK galleries including Saatchi, Hepworth Wakefield and CASS Sculpture Foundation. Help Yourselves is part of a series of food and performance pieces including The Bread Project (2020), which reconnected communities through the
baking and gifting of bread.

ABOUT CLAIRE LEBOWITZ KING
Claire Lebowitz King (Actor, Writer, Director) Claire is excited to be back working at Theaterlab, she began working with Orietta in 2006 and acted in her production Three Sisters Come and Go. Claire is also currently writing a play about initiation in the knowledge of the Dogon tribe of West Africa, keepers of the Egyptian Mysteries. For her day job at Sane Energy Project, she tries to get New York on renewable energy and stop fossil fuel expansion and teaches theater to new immigrant teenagers in Queens. Follow her @i_d_clairez.
