a sound installation and performance

About
Testu Collective’s “Listening to the Ether” sound installation is a continuation into their research on electromagnetic phenomena. This installation will include two interactive sound art pieces and a live performance with @michaelpromeo on Aug 9th closing the show.
The first piece is a magnetic drum machine that demonstrates the practical application of Faraday’s law of electromagnetic induction, where rotating magnetized wheels generate audio frequencies through magnetic flux variation. It eliminates traditional mechanical percussion elements, instead using magnetic field modulation to create rhythmic patterns. Each wheel’s rotation speed and magnetic pole configuration determines the fundamental frequency and harmonic content of the generated tones.
The second piece is a graphic score created through electromagnetic frequencies. The hidden electronics create inaudible electromagnetic signatures that become sonic material when detected by the EMF coil. Each component produces distinct frequency patterns, creating a palette of electronic tones, clicks, hums, or interference patterns. The listener becomes both performer and composer, discovering the hidden electronic landscape through movement.

Testu Collective (Theaterlab Artist-In-Residence)
Testu Collective is the intermedia art group founded by Serena Stucke & Dan Tesene. They create experimental videos, concept soundtracks, audiovisual experiences, sound art, and performance art installations.Testu has produced site-specific installations and curated works for Gray Area (SF), 2220 Arts and Archives (LA), Artists Space (NYC), Public Visuals (Tokyo), CTM Festival(online), Ars Electronica (NYC), Ace Hotel (NYC), The Shed (NYC), Pleamar Festival (Buenos Aires). Most recently Testu created a multichannel sound installation for Dan Flavin’s light sculptures at Mana Contemporary. www.testucollective.com
Mike Romeo (Guest Artist)
M.Romeo lives and works in New York, his work ranges from live real-time audio, visual, physical performances and exhibition works that combine computer graphics, audio, physical electronics and other materials into a cohesive medium. His work utilizes everything from algorithmic assisted hardware synthesis to computer vision and custom built electronics, exhibiting and performing under the moniker ‘Night Shining’. The work integrates a multitude of technologies, electronics building, and computer programming. www.night-shining.com
