Residency programs are an important part of Theaterlab’s programming. Among them, residencies founded by the generous support of NYSCA hold an important place. Since 2024, thanks to the annual grant, we have been able to invite selected artists to fiscally sponsored residencies, allowing them to develop a project of their choosing. Once completed, these AIR works are presented to audiences on a free-of-charge basis.

Join Yoko Murakami for Point (in Time), a special 2-day movement workshop where you will explore the intersection of the image, body, and space. Open to movement enthusiasts of all backgrounds and ages, we will play and research how we can take visual cues as inspiration to create new stories, as we collaborate with other bodies in space. The title of the workshop, Point (in Time), symbolizes how, through our physical activation, the image is recreated, never to be repeated in the exact same way. The hope for this workshop is to inspire new perspectives in even the mundane moments of our daily lives.
The workshop will be accompanied by still and moving images created with Bernardo Gasparini, and live music by Dan Gorelick. The 2-day workshop will conclude with an informal performance showing, open to the public.
Point (in Time) is the first installment of a 3-part project Point ____(Blank) presented by Theaterlab. This project is supported by the New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) through the Support for Artists Grant.

MEET THE ARTISTS
Yoko Murakami (she/her) is a Tokyo-born and New York City-based artist. She creates movement-based work in forms of site-specific installations and experimental film. She enjoys creating works for spaces that are not traditionally designed for performance and is interested in finding new ways to activate and question the way we interact with our environments. She has presented her creations in spaces like Mabou Mines (New York, NY), Ace Hotel (New York, NY), Triskelion Arts (Brooklyn, NY), Theaterlab (New York, NY), Da Da Da Gallery (Seattle, WA), Eshk Salon / Room Salon (Brooklyn, NY), and Aileyan Accessories (Brooklyn, NY). Her new venture into experimental film has led to her works being selected and screened in festivals in Seoul, Moscow, Naples, Belfort, Cyprus, Mexico City, and Lincoln Center in NYC. Yoko is a recipient of the 2025 NYSCA grant and has served as a Bessies Award Selection Committee in 2022-2024.
Dan Gorelick is a musician who blends classical cello and computation to create immersive sonic experiences. With 26 years of cello playing experience and a formal background in computer engineering, he creates soundscapes that respond to movement, meditation, and ceremonial spaces. Dan explores how music helps us experience different timescales—from human moments to geological epochs—deepening our connection to ourselves, nature, and each other. His improvisational approach builds responsive sound spaces that evolve with the energy of a space, making each performance a unique, collaborative journey. Dan is based in Brooklyn, NY with active ties to San Francisco/Bay Area and Berlin art communities.
Bernardo Gasparini is an enthusiast of the art of observing, questioning and expanding. Born and raised in Brazil, an outcast in his very conservative and religious hometown until finding his path thru lighting, literally, he was able to venture into the world. Through his broad and creative mind, he utilizes of photography and audiovisual tools to express his poetic vision. Mixing his analytical and pragmatic side with his quest to transform the world, he goes deep into the goals he sets for himself and his art, transiting around the globe at the study of human emotions and behaviors. And it is in the connection with ancestry that he reaffirms all his love and firmness. Merging peoples stories with contemporary life, a poetic and thought provoking way of visual communication.
