The Floating Tree – from poetry to stage
A physical theatre workshop with Christina Kyriazidi
The Floating Tree is a physical theatre workshop, designed for performers and theatre directors. Starting with a poem or a selection of poems, participants will generate and compose physical and vocal material, transforming poetic imagery into physical actions, and the atmosphere and dynamics of poetic speech into a stage environment, as well as the associations within poetry into theatrical dramaturgy and stage presence. Each participant will create a short sequence of physical and vocal actions, performed with precision and detail, communicating a story, image, or emotion through dynamic narration. The workshop also offers an intensive framework for psychophysical research, exploring the dramaturgy of movement and space, as well as tools essential to the performer’s craft (body/mind connection, bodily axes, sources of psychophysical energy, negations, and differentiations, asymmetry and imbalance, resistance, relationship with weight, breathing, focus, inner tempo, sensory awareness, and more).

MEET THE ARTISTS
Christina Kyriazidi is a Greek theatre and radio maker, musician, and writer, active in Berlin and Athens. She studied acting and playwriting in Greece and the UK (University of Exeter), and she has worked as a theatre actress, director, and dramaturge in several European and South American countries. She has collaborated with international theatre groups such as Odin Teatret, and she has created seventeen solo performances that have toured festivals, galleries, and theatres in Greece, France, Italy, Germany, Argentina, Brazil, and NYC. Her theatre plays have been awarded and performed in Greece, Germany, Brazil, and Spain and her poetry has been published in Greece.
