When there’s nothing left to do but dive, do you take the leap?
Inspired by Samantha Hunt’s THE SEAS, This Beautiful Blue is a devised exploration of sublimation, grief, and the intricate rhythms of family mourning. A man walks into the sea; a young girl falls in love with a sailor; a soldier comes home from the war. In a world of water, these characters find themselves entangled in the myths of the sea, learning to heal, learning to love– learning to tell their story.
Featuring soundscapes by Zak Kerhoulas, this staged reading will effectively transport you into a strange and magical narrative. Tiara and Zak’s creative collaboration began at the University of Michigan, where they worked together on the devised work PEOPLE ARE THINGS, an experimental piece in three parts about womanhood and the violence of silence. They have continued working together, adapting short stories into performances pieces and creating new, unexpected experiences for audiences.
This Beautiful Blue is their latest project– blending myths and stories of the sea with contemporary poetry, it is a unique exploration of the way we sublimate our lives, and the importance of storytelling to girlhood and to loss.

MEET THE ARTISTS
Ella Trisler (Performer) is a New York City based actor and singer hailing originally from Knoxville, Tennessee. Some of her most recent favorite roles include Emily Webb in Our Town with River and Rail Theatre Company and Girl in Start Then Next, which premiered in NYC off-off Broadway at New Circle Theatre Company. Ella is an alumnus of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she received her BA for Theatre with a concentration in acting in May of last year. ellatrisler.com, @ellatrisleractor
Zak Kerhoulas (Sound Designer) is an interdisciplinary sound designer based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Currently studying Computer Science and Performing Arts Technology at the University of Michigan, Zak is interested in realizing the soundscapes and sound technologies of imagined futures. Through working with her on previous shows including Attempts On Her Life and People Are Things, Tiara has become one of Zak’s favourite collaborators, and he is excited to bring the sound of This Beautiful Blue to life!
Tiara Partsch (Director) Born and raised in Luxembourg, Tiara is a theater maker and writer. Tiara recently obtained a BFA in Theatre Performance Directing from the University of Michigan. Over the past year, she devised her first self-produced piece, People Are Things, a multimedia work in three parts translated from and based on Nina Bouraoui’s writings, and directed Kari Swenson Riely’s A Pink Hat & Ice Cubes as part of NCTC’s main stage season in NYC.
